Ninety-five degree condylar plate, which consists of a single piece of flat, long rectangular bar with 12 round holes through the middle of the lower section; near the top, the bar bends slightly outwards, then at a curved 90° angle and straightens again; the top section of the bar has a straight lip at the side edges; the outer edge is flat and squared; the inner edge of the top section is flat; the inner edge of the lower section is slightly concave; the lowest hole on the lower section is open on one side with a bevelled groove in the metal; there is a round hole above the topmost hole that does not go thrugh the metal.

Research Facts
This titanium alloy was originally developed for the aircraft industry; the cup would have been used with a polyethylene insert; the holes were used to screw into the acetabulum when there was a concern about its stability; the hole at the bottom of the cup was used to make sure that the component had been hammered right against the bone; the rough exterior finish was for a better grip.

The DePuy Companies are part of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies; Revra DePuy founded DePuy Manufacturing (later to become DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc.) in 1895 in Warsaw, Indiana, on the promise of a fiber splint to replace the wooden barrel staves then used to set fractures; DePuy then becomes the first commercial orthopaedic manufacturer in the world; the Colles splint is generally used for distal-end fractures of the ulna and radius; it can be fitted to the correct angle of flexion by slightly twisting and bending the splint

Named after Dr. F.H. Albee (1876-1948), a New York surgeon, ca. 1915. This is an early application of power tools to surgery; Albee copied tools used by cabinetmakers to make precision cuts and joints; according to Dr. Honeyman (Brantford Clinic), it would have been most unsafe electrically, particularly since it was used at a time when explosive anaesthetics were being employed; use of power tools in orthopedic surgery improved the speed and accuracy of cutting bone, reduced, operating time, lessened the shock to the patient, and enabled more intricate reconstruction to be done.
