Patients would have the tubes put in during surgery to their lung, or in the Emergency Department for a collapsed lung; nurses would be responsible for noting the amount of drainage in the bottle after each shift (the bottle is missing from this machine); the pump would be attached to the patient for about 3-7 days depending on the amount of drainage.
