Ohio anaesthesia absorber, which consists of a two-chambered hollow cylindrical plastic section with metal top and bottom pieces and heavy wire protectors on the plastic chambers; the bottom of the absorber has a round metal base with a metal bar and a central threaded adjustable round knob, that allows the absorber to be fixed onto an anesthesia machine; the top of the absorber is round with a round central plastic-covered dial; at the front of the top are two valves; both valves have clear plastic bubble tops and round open ends, but the one at the right side also has a relief valve exhaust attachment area at the top and a cylindrical open tube at the bottom; this bottom piece had an attached rebreathing bag, which was removed and discarded due to the level of deterioration of the rubber; there is a rubber-covered metal cylindrical tube at the back of the absorber that runs from the top to the bottom.

The bottom of the top piece of the absorber has the number "7957" stamped on it; the top of the absorber reads, "Ohio ® // ANESTHESIA ABSORBER // MODEL NUMBER // AIRCO ® // Ohio Medical Products // A DIVISION OF AIRCO, INC. // MADISON, WISCONSIN . 53707 // SERIAL NUMBER // U.S. PAT. 3,088,810 // Patented in Canada 1963 // SAFETY PRECAUTIONS // Before connecting the absorber to each patient, make certain that: [four precautions listed] // INSTRUCTIONS // OUT // Change lime within 4 hours use after // color change begins in lower canister // [7 instructions listed] // IN"; the central dial reads, "MILLIMETERS OF MERCURY // CENTIMETERS OF WATER // [manufacturer's address listed and the dial is marked in increments from -10 to +60 for water and -10 to +50 for mercury]"; the rubber hose at the back has a label which reads, "Ohio Medical Products // CONDUCTIVE UL ["UL" encircled and superscr.]"

Condition Remarks
The absorber arrived very dusty and dirty; the metal parts show some wear and there is green corrosion on the strip of metal between the plastic chambers; the attached rubber rebreathing bag was so deteriorated (cracked and brittle) that it was discarded; the rubber tube at the back is complete and flexible; all plastic parts are complete and show only minor wear shows some wear and has soda lime residue inside, but is uncracked and complete
