Dental casting machine (a); brown wooden rectangular base; cylindrical yellow metal pump to one side; brown wooden cylindrical handle at top; larger cylindrical yellow metal tank with raised border around middle and gauge at top, printed with black enamel and covered with clear glass; gauge shows numbers 0-30; red rubber tube comes from tank, would attach to press; metal valve coming from bottom of tank; black rubber tube goes between tank and pump; black-enamelled silver metal press in middle of base; lever with brown wooden bulbous handle at front; pulling lever down causes silver metal cylinder to move down toward base; metal disc (b) with five perforated holes in middle fits into base underneath lever; smaller disc (d) screws onto bottom of silver metal cylinder; cylindrical dish (c) with matching perforated holes sits on larger disc; white fabric tube, covered with red rubber, goes from bottom of cylinder up to top of press

Dr Ralph and Mrs Olga Crawford donated their extensive Canadian dental collection to the DCF to create the museum in 1997; further donations were received while Dr Crawford was Curator Emeritus at the Dental Canada Museum until its closure in 2008; this item was donated by Dr. Ralph Crawford from Winnipeg, Manitoba; the company patented another casting maching design in 1927, so this machine most likely dates before that year; William Taggert designed the first casting machine in 1907; it had a very similar design to this item

Dr Ralph and Mrs Olga Crawford donated their extensive Canadian dental collection to the DCF to create the museum in 1997; further donations were received while Dr Crawford was Curator Emeritus at the Dental Canada Museum until its closure in 2008; this item was donated by Dr. James G. Brass from Comox, British Columbia; his father was a classmate of the inventor of this product, Olin G. McKenzie, at Northwestern University in the late 1930s; this item was patented in 1943; its primary objective was to provide a simple and efficient plugger construction which can be used in an ordinary drilling handpiece, specifically only with a change in the latch, not the handpiece itself
