Description
Stomach suture apparatus, which consists of (a) a large, heavy, double-handled, double-bladed clamp with box joint handles that pull away from each other to open upper blade to display 23 pairs of narrow rectangular slots that hold suture clips on bottom blade; two thumb-printed, wide serrated based screws hold blades to handles; small square opening at back of lower blade; there is a four-sided sliding bar with serrations on top side inside lower blade, lying flush to the distal end; (b) filling rack, which has a flat rectangular base with rounded corners; two perpendicular squares with rounded upper edges are attached to the base 1.5 cm apart; (c) filling pin, which is a cylindrical handle with a rounded proximal end; distal end tapers to a flat blade; (d) filling tweezer, which consists of two pieces of metal attached at the end with grooved grips on the outer edges; (e) screwdriver, which is made of one piece of metal and has a flat-head screwdriver end; this flares out to rounded edges; the handle is an elongated teardrop shape; (f) additional closing clamp, which consists of a one-piece U-shaped base with an open centre; top of U is closed off with a six-sided solid piece of metal that has four flat outer edges and a rounded top; threaded bar that extends from the handle into an open wedge has a flat turning handle with flat top and bottom and rounded edges, with a hole in the centre; distal end of threaded bar has attached square six-sided piece of metal located inside wedge; surface is concave with a screw in the centre and a hole punched in the left side; (g) gear wheel, which has a handle that looks like a boat steering wheel; five flat gripping knobs with rounded edges are attached, equally spaced, to outer edge of the wheel; five support bars equally spaced apart run to centre of wheel, leaving five equally-spaced openings; centre of wheel has six-sided bolt that secures rounded, protruding shaft to wheel; distal end of shaft is square-sided and has a rounded end; (i) suture clip box bottom is a clear, plastic rectangular-shaped bottom with rounded corners; the sides turn upwards from the bottom and the top is open; in the box there are 100 German silver suture clips, measuring 0.7 cm wide x 0.6 cm deep; the clip is a band of metal with both ends bent up to an approximate 80 deg angle, with sharp tapered sides; a clear plastic, rectangular-shaped lid (h) with rounded corners and edges that turn downwards to fit snugly over box bottom; (j) wooden storage case, consisting of a rectangular wooden case with an attached lid; swivel-drawer-like handle is mounted between two small knob-like posts bolted to outside lid of box; lid is secured to box with two hinges; on box front are two latches shaped like question marks, with finger lever on top to open and close over bolt on each side of lid; these two latches are attached to box with screws; centre front of box has a keyhole with attached keys; inside the box are two storage racks with a lidded storage area in bottom of box.

(a) Stamped into one handle: "D"; on front of handle is stamped the Jetter & Scheerer logo of a snake wrapped around a caduceus rod with a crown above and the letters "AESCULAP"; on the other handle is stamped "INGRAM & BELL, GERMANY // STAINLESS"; also stamped into the handles is "82b"; stamped into each handle on inner side is the number "10"; on blade front, stamped into the metal and screws at each end of the blade, near the square opening, is a measurement scale with increment lines and the numbers 1 through 23; also engraved into the metal: "# 2"; on blade back is a measurement scale with increment lines and the numbers 1 through 23 stamped into the metal; "# 2" is engraved in the metal in two places; (j) on the inside lid: "AESCULAP"; and "INGRAM & BELL // LIMITED // TORONTO // MONTREAL WINNIPEG CALGARY VANCOUVER"
