Research Facts
John J. Allen was born in Dungannon in Huron County, Ontario in 1871. In 1900, he came to Ottawa and opened a drug store; eventually, he and his partner, William Cochrane, sold their business to United Drug Stores, later Rexall. Allen and Cochrane later established a brokerage firm. John J. Allen was mayor of Ottawa, from 1931 to 1933.

The paper completely covers the bottle; at the top edges, there are two tears, but the bottle is not visible; 15 mm from the top is a water stain approx. 10 mm in diameter; white, splotchy marks over 20% of surface, perhaps indicating dampness; general discolouration from dirt and environment.
