Merthiolate is the trademard for sodium ethyl mercurithiosalicylate, a light cream-coloured crystalline powder, used as an antiseptic, germicide and fungicide.
Thimerosal is mercury based, and it is a preservative that is used in vaccines; because of health concerns, it is only used in small doses and is not present in many vaccines in the United States or Eurpoe today (2019).
This bottle was made by the Owens-Illinois Glass Company
Eli Lilly and Company was founded in 1876 by Colonel Eli Lilly in the U.S. It is today a very large, global pharmaceutical company. Lilly Canada was established in 1938, and they worked together with scientists at the University of Toronto. It built its first facility in Toronto in 1946.
