Description
Apothecary balance scale which consists of several parts that fit together; these parts consist of (a) a balance post that has a central hollow cylindrical vertical metal piece set onto a round metal base that has two small screws in it; there is a moveable cylindrical piece that fits inside the central post; the top of the inner piece has a rectangular-shaped piece with a slot in the centre and a flat T-shaped attachment with vertical increment lines at the back; a balance beam (b) fits into the slot; the beam has a flat metal bar that has a downwards triangular section in the centre; the top of the bar has an attached cylindrical needle; the ends of the central bar have small squared hooks attached; a lever (c) fits under the base of the central post and lifts up the inner piece when pulled downwards; the lever is made of a piece of flat metal with one end rounded and the other end with a semi-circular area that turns upwards and fits under the base of the central bar; there are also two wire tray suspenders (d,e) which hang from the hooks on the balance beam; each wire tray suspender has a solid cylindrical metal wire that is bent to a point at the top and curves downwards to join a tray at the bottom; the tray is round with tapered right and left sides; two round metal trays (f,g) fit on top of the tray suspenders; the trays are both round, flat metal that curves upwards slightly on the outer edges; there is a rounded handle piece on each tray that comes out from the edge; the scale comes with five weights (h-l); all the weights are round, flat metal pieces of differing weights: (h,i) 2 drachms, (j) 2 scruples, (k) 1/2 drachm and (l) 1scruple; the balance post fits onto (m) a rectangular wooden box; this box is hollow with a closed top, bottom, right, left and back sides; the top of the box has a hole in the centre into which the balance post fits; there is an attached piece of flat rectangular metal in front of the post hole where the lever rests when pulled downwards; the box has a drawer (n) which is closed on all sides except the top; the front panel has an attached knob in the centre; pieces of the scale fit inside the box drawer when not in use and the drawer fits inside the box; the knob sticks out from the box

Antidiphtheric serum antitoxic units, which consists of 30 pieces in a wooden box; the parts consist of (a) a covered flexible attachment that has a length of hollow cylindrical rubber tubing that has a small hole through its centre; one end of this tube has a hollow cylindrical needle that has a sharp bevelled tip; both ends of the rubber tube are covered with hollow cylindrical glass tubes that are open and round at one end and closed and rounded outwards at the other end; there are three flexible attachments for needles in glass tubes (b-d); each consists of a hollow cylindrical glass tube with a closed, flat bottom and an open round top; inside these tubes is a cylindrical length of hollow rubber tubing with a round open attachment at one end and a hollow threaded attachment at the other end; the top of the tubes are closed with a piece of round cork; the outside of the tubes have attached printed paper labels with manufacturing information on them; there are also four flexible attachments with needles (e-h); each of these consists of a length of hollow cylindrical rubber tubing that has a needle set into one end; the needle has a cylindrical, hollow metal base that tapers to attach to a hollow cylindrical small metal needle with an open bevelled sharp tip; there is one single length of hollow rubber tubing (i) with no attachments, and two unattached needles (j,k); these needles are the same as those attached to the rubber tubing; there are also two syringe needles (l,m); these both consist of a round, hollow metal base that tapers to attach to a hollow, cylindrical small metal needle with an open, bevelled sharp tip; there are 17 glass tubes (n-dd); each of these tubes consist of a length of hollow cylindrical glass with an open round top and a closed bottom that is rounded outwards; all of the above pieces are housed in a wooden box with a lid; the box bottom (ee) is rectangular in shape with a closed bottom and four sides joined with finger joints; the top of the box bottom is open and has grooves cut into the wood at the uppermost edges to allow the lid (ff) to slide into them and cover the top of the box bottom; the lid consists of a flat, rectangular-shaped piece of wood with narrow edges and an attached printed paper label on the top; the label lists product and manufacturing information.
