Research Facts
Dr Ralph and Mrs Olga Crawford donated their extensive Canadian dental collection to the DCF to create the museum in 1997; further donations were received while Dr Crawford was Curator Emeritus at the Dental Canada Museum until its closure in 2008; this item was donated by Dr. Carmen Cavallin from Vancouver, British Columbia; this item was patented in 1934 by James Sorenson; it was used to take accurate occlusal measurements of a patient's face in order to construct dentures; it was based on the idea that there is a fixed law regarding face measurements: the vertical distance from the pupil to the naso spinale is equal to the vertical distance from the centre of the lip line to the bottom of the mandible; the instrument used the patient's pupil as a fixed point of calculation for all measurements; the two rulers are not originally from the same product

Research Facts
Dr Ralph and Mrs Olga Crawford donated their extensive Canadian dental collection to the DCF to create the museum in 1997; further donations were received while Dr Crawford was Curator Emeritus at the Dental Canada Museum until its closure in 2008; a matrix band, consisting of a small, thin sheet of metal, was held tight alongside the tooth being filled to provide a smooth, curved wall against which the filling could be packed; a retainer was used to hold it in place; this model featured pointed knobs on its end, which could attach securely to the matrix, ensuring it would not become disengaged
