Electric dental gold annealer consists of square silver metal base with black rubber round feet; white marble square on top; five raised metal circles on front of marble show numbers 0-4; silver metal handle with black rubber tip passes over circles to adjust heat; silver metal square tray with lid mounted to marble; white stone insert with square and rectangular grooves inside tray to place gold; manufacturer's information engraved on plaque nailed to front of annealer; black and green fabric-covered electric wires coming from back lead to black rubber and brown metal plug.

Research Facts
Dr Ralph and Mrs Olga Crawford donated their extensive Canadian dental collection to the DCF to create the museum in 1997; further donations were received while Dr Crawford was Curator Emeritus at the Dental Canada Museum until its closure in 2008; this item was donated by Jill Burbank, wife of Dr. Erwin C. Burbank, from Victoria, British Columbia; Dr. Burbank practiced dentistry in Montreal with his brother, Dr. Alton W. Burbank; annealers are used to heat and prepare gold for fillings; Pelton & Crane was created when Dr. Pelton, a dentist, needed a porcelain furnace for his practice; he called upon the help of Mr. Crane, an electrical engineer, and together they began a dental manufacturing company in the basement of Dr. Pelton's home.

Electric dental gold annealer consists of rectangular beige-painted brown wooden base with silver metal screws at bottom corners; raised metal circle at front on base; silver metal handle with black wooden tip passes over circle to turn on annealer; silver metal rectangular tray with lid mounted to base; lid is raised upward and back by four black metal wires, one with black wooden knob on end; perforated metal surface covered by thin layer of clear plastic inside tray; grey and white fabric-covered electric wire coming from back leads to brown plastic and brown metal plug; manufacturer's information engraved on plaque screwed to front of annealer; thin black rubber wires lead from back of tray to underneath base.
