Dr. Weston Herriman was one of the first nine students who graduated in 1855 from the newly formed School of Medicine at the Church of Scotland affiliated University of Queen's College (1854, Kingston, Ontario). The nine senior students had transferred from the Anglican Upper Canada School of Medicine, Toronto to the new school at Queen's.

Doreen Appleton (maiden name) attended Queen's Nursing Science School from 1951-1952, KGH Nursing School from 1952-1955, and Queen's again from 1955-1956; she worked at Ongwanada Sanitarium in the summer of 1956, and at Public Health in Napanee and at schools etc. in the late 1950s; she worked part time during the 1960s at KGH and did not work from the late 1960s until 1977 when she returned part time to KGH; she also worked at the Fraser Armstrong Patient Center from 1979-1992, and at a doctor's office until she retired in 1996.

Description
A typewriter maintenance kit that consists of (a) a cylindrical-shaped metal container that is open on one end with threading on the interior; it flares out and has a flat bottom with a lipped middle; a lid (b) screws into the metal container; the lid is a solid, narrow, circular handle with straight sides that have vertical lines; a wide stopper extends from this handle and continues with a threaded, open bottom; a cylindrical glass bottle (c) has mould seams on both sides that taper to a short neck that has a distinct, rounded lip around the middle; a brown cork with a flat top is inserted in the opening; this glass bottle sits in (d) a wooden, hollow, round barrel bottom; this has a flat bottom and smooth sides; a barrel top (c) fits onto the barrel bottom; this has a bevelled end in order to fit into the barrel bottom; also included in set is (f) a small brush, which has a flat and round-ended handle, stiff brush ends on one side and straight engraved lines on the other; a small black brush (g) is also included; this is a flat stick with rounded edges that have tassles of brush ends on one end; this kit fits into a rectangular-shaped box bottom (h), which is made of paper-covered cardboard with seams at top edges; the lid (i) fits on the box bottom; this is paper-covered cardboard with two cut-away half-moon-shaped finger notches on the centre of the box; a wire clip (j) is included; this is one round piece of steel that is bent in half, both ends tapering to a pointed tip.
