Metal stand and motor case scratched; black lacquer paint chipping off in spots; lacquer on motor case is dulling due to wear; exposed metal is tarnished; motor case exterior has a missing screw-on cap which exposes a spring; hand-piece scratched with minor paint chipping; oily residue on hand-piece's metal ring, inside drawer and inside motor case; cloth-braided cord for hand-piece has several minor tears; cloth-braided plug torn in the middle of cable; wires exposed and cord frayed at tear; plug missing cap and exposing wires; oil can tarnished and oily; pages from Popular Mechanics magazine thoroughly stained with oil; showing several rips.

Durham Duplex razor handle (a) has a cream coloured celluloid sheath that hinges onto a thinner rectangular silver steel handle with vertical grip lines on each side; handle widens into a larger rectangular head with two small rectangular holes; the bottom tip of the handle flares out and then tapers to a point; silver steel blade guard (b) has fifteen teeth on either side and attaches to handle via two clips that fit inside the rectangular holes on (a) and is held in place by a thin piece which fits into a small groove on (a); silver steel razor blade (c) fits in between the handle and the blade guard and is rectangular in shape with rounded edges and an oblong cut out in the centre which fits over the clips on (b); replacement blades (d-e) are identical to (c) and come inside a small red paper box (f) with a cream coloured border and gold and green lettering; the company logo is printed on top and consists of two lions each holding a flag on either side of a shield with three banners below them containing the company motto; all items fit into a cream coloured celluloid box with a top (g) and a bottom (h) section which fit together.

In 1593, Galileo invented the thermoscope, a predecessor of the thermometer.
The first liquid in glass thermometer was invented by The Grand Duke of Tuscany Ferdinando II de' Medici, and used alcohol.
In 1714, Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit created the first modern thermometer using mercury.
In 1867, Sir Thomas Albutt invented the first medical thermometer designed to measure human body temperature. It was six inches long and took five minutes to work.

Research Facts
Olive oil was used in various pharmacy recipes for home use and at the pharmacists.
This type of bottle is called a cruet, and is most often used to hold vinegar, oil, or sacramental wine. The word "cruet" was first attested circa 1300, and most likely comes from the Old French "crue", meaning an earthen pot. Related to the word "crock".
Amber, the colour of this glass, was a popular colour for glass just after the American Civil War and during the 1930s-1950s, and is one of the many colours which are often cited when referring to "Depression Glass". Amber glass comes from iron, sulphur, and carbon being added to molten glass. Amber glass is good for protecting liquids, as it blocks UV light and other light wavelengths under 450 nm, which is why it is often used to store medicines, alcohols, and oils.

Glass mercury oral thermometer (a) with metal end; the glass is marked withhand painted numbers and hatch marks from 95, closest to the tapered end which ends with the metal, to 110 at the glass end; a white stripe runs the length of the thermometer on the opposite side of the numbers and contains words and numbers in black ink; the thermometer is enclosed in a grey metal case (b,c) which has a hexagonal metal piece on it just below where the lid meets the case.
