Description
An ultrasound monitor consisting of the monitor (a) which is a plastic electrical device resembling a small portable radio, with a speaker on the front with an on/off switch, there is a looped rope attached to the top and a connector on the bottom which connects to the charging unit (b); there is a black cord coming out of the back with a standard 3 pronged plug, and a detachable grey cord (c) which attaches to the front of the charger and has a black disc on the end; the transducer (d) screws into the disc, and is a black rubber coated rod.

Research Facts
Used to monitor infant heart rate; also known as a "Doptone" because it measures tones using the "Doppler Effect"; Dr. A.A.Travill was an anatomy professor at Queen's, and served as department head from 1968-1978; he had an interest in medical history, and published several books and articles on the subject.
The expiration sticker is in German, so it was most likely made at HP's German factory in Boeblingen.

Hemacytometer, which consists of (a) a slender glass pipette with a bulb just above centre that contains a small mixing head; the pipette is shaped like a thermometer and tapers to a teardrop-shaped end; the pipette fits onto a rubber tube that curves into a rectangular shape and connects to a small glass mouthpiece with a lip; included in this set is (b) a broken thick glass slide that acts as a counting chamber; the glass slide has three parallel trenches (a fourth trench is missing due to breakage); a small transverse centre trench creates an "H" pattern engraved between trenches; all of the pieces described fit into a purpose-built case (c); this case has built-in purple velvet-covered moulds that hold the instrument parts apart from each other; it is rectangular in shape with a clasp at the front that is missing its counterpart on the lid; a small metal knob is located on the front right side of the case; the outside of the case is leather bound with a thatched pattern covering the entire case except for the cloth-covered bottom.

Research Facts
It is used as a test to diagnose kidney problems and diseases (injected intravenously) and as a estrogenic stimulus. Urine tests are done to diagnose kidneys, the amount of phenol red excreted indicates kidney function (more excreted: the better the kidneys are working; less excreted: indicates chronic kidney conditions). It can enhance growth of cells that have estrogen receptors, because phenol red is an estrogen mimic.

Rubber tubing missing; #2: the box is covered with leather-like material and has several scratches on top and sides, bottom is intact; corners show wear, and a small rectangular piece on top exposes an under layer; yellow printing on top shows some wear but is legible; no tears or separation from lid; box is lined with velvet, which is stained on top and bottom on left-hand side; no tears; contents: glass intact, no chips, cracks or scratches; ivory is intact.
