Research Facts
Used to monitor infant heart rate; also known as a "Doptone" because it measures tones using the "Doppler Effect"; Dr. A.A.Travill was an anatomy professor at Queen's, and served as department head from 1968-1978; he had an interest in medical history, and published several books and articles on the subject.
The expiration sticker is in German, so it was most likely made at HP's German factory in Boeblingen.

Research Facts
It is used as a test to diagnose kidney problems and diseases (injected intravenously) and as a estrogenic stimulus. Urine tests are done to diagnose kidneys, the amount of phenol red excreted indicates kidney function (more excreted: the better the kidneys are working; less excreted: indicates chronic kidney conditions). It can enhance growth of cells that have estrogen receptors, because phenol red is an estrogen mimic.
