Research Facts
The Fenwick Operating Theatre opened in October 1895, and was added to the main hospital building. It cost $4000 to construct, and was named after Dr. Kenneth N. Fenwick, who donated over half the cost. The theatre had a domed ceiling with a skylight and ten windows. There were three rows of seats for up to 100 medical students to observe operations from. The room was round so that there were no corners where dirt and germs could collect, and it could be cleaned easily.

Research Facts
The first official graduating class of the Kingston General Hospital School of Nursing was in 1888; the school was created in order to educate nurses as the demand for them increased, as well as providing a labour force to the hospital. When the first nurses graduated, they were given a certificate of completion, twenty five dollars, and a nursing medal. Over the years, nurses were sometimes given pins and/or rings or other memorabilia to commemorate their graduation from the school.
