Monochrome sepiatone large photograph of ten nurses in the nursing uniform of Kingston General Hospital c1900 printed on thick cardstock; head nurse in the center is dressed in a dark coloured nursing uniform with a white cap, collar and cuffs and rimless spectacles on a thin gold chain pinned to the right side, and an enameld class pin for the Toronto General Hospital at the collar; surrounding the head nurse are nine other nurses in training; two of them are sitting in the front and at a lower level than the head nurse, two others are also sitting, but at the height of the head nurse, two nurses are standing at the second row from the back and behind them are three more nurses standing above all the others; the nurses in training are wearing white nursing uniforms with white caps and red sleeves plus a red fabric cross on white cotton puffy short sleeves on their right sleeves; written on the back of the photograph is information on the original owner of the photograph and the donor.

Description
Certificate printed with black ink on cream or light brown paper; the name of the group with the authority to certify the record is found at the top of the certificate in large capitalized letters and between the name of the group is the group's crest, which features an eagle next to a shield with the American flag on it; below the name and crest of the group are the words, written in cursive, describing the nature of the certification and what it entails, whom the certificate is directed to, and who is providing this certification; at the end of the paragraph and at the bottom of the certificate are five signatures and the certificate number; at the bottom left of the certificate is the seal of the Illinois State Board of Nurse Examines; surrounding the content is a well-designed border; and while the back of the certificate is originally blank, at the top left corner, written in pen, is further information pertaining to the people in the photo.

The edges of the certificate are heavily torn, ripped, curled and bent, but the content of the certificate and seal is still intact; misisng pieces along edges and corners; a few stains on the front, which are showing on the back, and one of the words written in pen on the back of the certificate is missing due to tearing

Description
Commemorative hand-painted porcelain plate depicts a scene of Dr. Norman Bethune in China; Dr. Bethune is drawn wearing a blue shirt and pants and a white apron, shaking the hand of a soldier on a horse; there are 15 other people drawn onto the plate; on the bottom proper right there are eight Chinese characters, three in the top row, four in the second row and one in the third row; on the back of the plate there are two raised circles, a smaller one near the centre of the plate with a red square with Chinese characters inside and a larger one near the edge of the plate; there are three holes spaced evenly around the larger circle.

Research Facts
Dr. Norman Bethune was born in 1890 in Gravenhurst, Ontario and followed in his grandfather's footsteps and became a surgeon; Dr. Bethune is most famous for his pioneering work in blood transfusions during the Spanish Civil War; Dr. Bethune returned to Canada and then set off for China in 1938 where he operated as a skilled surgeon and teacher; Dr. Bethune operated on the front lines once again during an invasion by the Japanese in 1939 and it was here that he cut his finger while working on a patient, contracted septecemia and died November 12, 1939; Dr. Bethune is commemorated as a hero for his work abraod and in Canada; Renaude Lapointe was a Canadian journalist, Senator and Speaker of the Senate from 1974 - 1979; the Canadian Nurse's Association was founded in 1908 as an association of professional nurses

The Canadian Nurse's Association was founded in 1908 as an association of professional nurses.
