Condition Remarks
(a,b) Slight yellowing of paper and a few pieces of clear tape have been adhered to the sides of the box; the interiors show some marking by the black rubber of the cord; (c) a few scratches to rubber and marks due to use; (d) scratches on metal exterior; glass end has two black marks below the surface (possibly burnt out); (e) fading along edges and folds; folds are heavy.

(a) Ophthalmoscope case, which is a rectangular box, leather over wood, with a hinged lid and interior lined with dark blue velvet and segmented into different storage compartments with interior walls; metal latch at front; (b,c) otoscope speculum, cone-shaped, plastic and hollow, with threading around the wide mouth and a long, narrow neck; (d) nasal speculum, cone-shaped, plastic and hollow, with threading around the wide mouth and a squat neck; (e) light at end of a plastic and metal cylinder; curves 120° to single-prong plug; projecting at 30° from light tube is a metal clip assembly; (f) ophthalmoscope head; body is a rotating disc of metal, with small glass lenses embedded in the disc, sandwiched between two thin discs of metal, pierced with two circular holes; one allows patient and doctor to look through, the other shows magnification of top lens; the front plate has both sides cut back to allow easier turning of embedded disc; the rear plate has an extra semicircle of metal attached to the top; a metal cylinder runs down back of instrument, topped with a lens; the bottom has a single-prong plug and a thick, textured neck.
