Dr Ralph and Mrs Olga Crawford donated their extensive Canadian dental collection to the DCF to create the museum in 1997; further donations were received while Dr Crawford was Curator Emeritus at the Dental Canada Museum until its closure in 2008; the American Academy of Gold Foil Operators began meeting annually in 1952; meetings are held at different dental colleges around North America and involve clinical sessions where members demonstrate the placement of direct gold restoration on patients, as well as lectures
