The ALS Society of Canada was founded in 1977, and is dedicated to working "with the ALS community to improve the lives of people affected by ALS through support, advocacy and investment in research for a future without ALS." ALS stands for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and causes the death of neurons controlling voluntary muscles. It is sometimes called Lou Gehrig's disease after a famous baseball player who died of it.

#1: "D" is missing a piece in upper left corner and is unstable; stabilization required prior
to display; verso is corroded -- it was not coated and shows corrosion from attachment to surface,

remnants in the "C", "a", "k" and "n" of C.M. Bracken as well as the periods; we are unsure
as to when this damage occurred -- pieces were not found in the exhibit case

All pages have discoloured to light brown; there are fold lines, tears, losses, and abrasion marks along the folded edge of the front cover; inside the front cover, on the top and bottom edges of the bound line, there are brown stains and smudges, as if they were caused by adhesive tape; the glue residue inside the back cover shows no discolouration.

Dr Ralph and Mrs Olga Crawford donated their extensive Canadian dental collection to the DCF to create the museum in 1997; further donations were received while Dr Crawford was Curator Emeritus at the Dental Canada Museum until its closure in 2008; the Penkala-Moster Co. was established in 1906 by Eduard Penkala and Edmund Moster to manufacture Penkala's new invention of the mechanical pencil; the company was successful and diversified into writing instruments and accessories patented by Penkala; a second factory was eventually opened up in Berlin; the company still continues to this day; an ink blotter was used to blot ink and prevent it from runnig, smearing, or smudging
