Research Facts
This hearing aid is a behind-the-ear hearing aid, with a piece that sits behind the ear (the hard plastic part) and a piece that connects from there and sits in the ear (the rubber piece). Today, the most commonly used types of hearing aids are Behind-the-Ear (BTE) , Receiver-In-Canal (RIC), In-the-Ear (ITE), and Invisible-in-Canal (IIC).
Early predecessors to hearing aids were ear trumpets; a horn in which the small end was placed in a person's ear and the large, bell end amplified sounds coming in.
Zinc Air batteries were introduced in 1977 and helped pave the way for greater sales of In-the-Ear hearing aids, as they were smaller batteries.
Throughout the 20th century, with the introduction of electrical hearing aids, new ways of concealing hearing aids were also introduced, including concealing the devices in purses and cases that were made to look like camera cases.
This hearing aid has a t-switch, which refers to a telecoil. A telecoil is a wire coiled around a rod inside the hearing aid, and it functions to pick up magnetic signals and bring them into the hearing aid as sound. This way, background noise can be cut out so the wearer can focus on the voice of someone speaking to them, music, a lecture, etc. This can be linked to existing sound systems in public places so that the sound is delivered directly to the hearing aids.
Widex is a family owned company founded in 1956 in Denmark.
