Research Facts
Valleau purchased the bandage scissors for $1.25; the scissors were required for every nurse and
they were instructed to purchase them by Ann Baillie; KGH nurses always used scissors as part of
their uniforms; earlier varieties were longer with straight blades and filigree design work; these
earlier scissors hung from a black ribbon tied around the belt

Research Facts
According to Col. Barnard, "The kit was picked up in Italy during WW II by the late Brigadier R.S. Malone."
Brigadier Richard Sankey Malone (1909-1985) worked on the Winnipeg Free Press, established "The Maple Leaf" newspaper for the Canadian forces in Europe. Fought and was wounded at Sicily, in Italy.
