Patient starter pack of Yasmin 28 oral birth control, which consists of (a) a blister pack containing 28 tablets, (b) a wallet to store the blister pack, (c) an information sheet, (d) an information booklet and (e) a day label sheet; all parts are housed in (f) a cardboard box; (a) the blister pack consists of a rectangular-shaped clear plastic top with 28 round bubble pockets to house 21 light yellow and 7 white tablets; the corners of the pack are rounded; a piece of foil covers the bottom of the pack and seals the tablets in; the foil has printed information on both sides; the blister pack is stored in (b) a wallet; the wallet consists of a piece of square-shaped grey plastic with flock coating on one side; the wallet is folded in half with the flock-covered side on the outside and a pocket (one flock-coated and one clear plastic) on the two inside flaps; the blister pack fits into either of the inner pockets; the starter pack comes with (c) an information sheet; this is a single sheet of paper, with printed information on both sides, which has been folded several times; the starter pack also comes with (d) an information booklet; this consists of four pieces of printed rectangular-shaped paper that have been folded in half and stapled together at the left side; the booklet has printed information on taking an oral contraceptive; the starter pack also comes with (e) a day label sheet; this is a small rectangular-shaped piece of glossy paper with strips of sticky labels; the labels have all the days of the week listed, with seven strips, so each label starts with a different day of the week; the top label (SUN - SAT) has been stuck onto the top of the blister pack; all pieces are housed in (f) a printed cardboard box; the box is rectangular in shape with flaps at the left and right sides and a flat rectangular piece attached at the top; all sides of the box have printed information on them.

Research Facts
Yasmin has been available in Canada since 2005. It contains a type of progestin called drospirenone which can reduce symptoms of PMS including water retention, and improve some types of acne. Drospirenone may be associated with a higher risk of fatal blood clots than other types of hormonal birth control. Class-action lawsuits against Yasmin and similar product Yaz have been initiated in nine provinces between 2009 and 2013, with one in Ontario certified by a judge to proceed in April 2013.
