Research Facts
Ethylhexanediol was shown by Union Carbide to potentially produce birth defects in animals, including their lungs failing to inflate when they are born. Because of this discovery, products like 6-12 Insect Repellent were taken off the shelves in the 1990s and pregnant and child-bearing age women were urged not to use it.

Research Facts
The Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario, by 1935, was instrumental in developing standards for nursing education and practice. The association protected the title “registered nurse” by making it mandatory to be registered. Nurses had to graduate from nursing school and subsequently be examined again in order to become registered nurses in Ontario. Examinations for the Registered Nurse Certificate began in 1923.

Used as an anti-inflammatory agent, eases stomach and throat pain, and helps with weight loss management. Has been in use for 4000+ years as food, medicine and in arts (used as glue by Ancient Eygptians). It comes from a liquid substance taken from the plant dissolved into water and forming a gum. Fibres in the gum lead to weight loss by making patients feel full. Used as flavouring, clouding agent and as a stabilizer in drinks.

Research Facts
Dr Ralph and Mrs Olga Crawford donated their extensive Canadian dental collection to the DCF to create the museum in 1997; further donations were received while Dr Crawford was Curator Emeritus at the Dental Canada Museum until its closure in 2008; gold is still used by some dentists, despite it being more costly and more difficult to work with than amalgams or composites; gold was first used to fill cavities around 1500 C.E. in early modern Italy; while gold is a very soft metal, it becomes harder when compressed, and pieces weld together in the mouth; it requires twice as much force as amalgam does to be compressed, however, and there is a danger of hurting the tooth being filled
