Research Facts
Dr Ralph and Mrs Olga Crawford donated their extensive Canadian dental collection to the DCF to create the museum in 1997; further donations were received while Dr Crawford was Curator Emeritus at the Dental Canada Museum until its closure in 2008; True Dentalloy was S. S. White's dental alloy for use in making amalgam fillings, and it consisted of a high percentage of silver (around 70%) and a mix of tin, copper and zinc; amalgams were first used in France in the early 19th century, and involved amalgamating metals with mercury; the modern 'recipe' was perfected by Dr. G. V. Black in the 1890s in Chicago, and S. S. White used his method to create their Dentalloy; in their catalogue they state their alloy is perfectly balanced, meaning the expansion of one metal is balanced by the contraction of another, and tempered, meaning it is aged so that the metals will remain stable

Research Facts
Dr Ralph and Mrs Olga Crawford donated their extensive Canadian dental collection to the DCF to create the museum in 1997; further donations were received while Dr Crawford was Curator Emeritus at the Dental Canada Museum until its closure in 2008; this item was donated by Dr. William H. Mills from Toronto, Ontario; a 1936 advertisement for this cabinet states that the addition of attractive, restful and prestige-producing colour to dental equipment adds a great deal to its value but nothing to its moderate cost
