Research Facts
Ethel Dowsley graduated in 1925.
The first graduating class of the Kingston General Hospital School of Nursing was in 1888; the school was created in order to educate nurses as the demand for them increased, as well as providing a labour force to the hospital. When the first nurses graduated, they were given a certificate of completion, twenty five dollars, and a nursing medal.

Dr. John E. Roddick, Queen's University (Class of 1938). Item purchased by Mr. John E. Roddick of Lyndhurst, Ontario, and prescribed by Dr. Thomas (later Sir Thomas) Roddick, Montreal. Dr. Thomas Roddick was a prominent surgeon, Dean of Medicine at McGill and Member of Parliament. Roddick promoted a "Bill" that became known as the "Roddick Bill (1902)", officially called the Canada Medical Act establishing the Medical Council of Canada to register all medical graduates in the country.
