Late on the evening of Jan. 21, 1896, Fenwick died at home and buried at Cataraqui Cemetery. Fenwick was survived by his third wife of only six months, Miriam MacPherson, and three children from earlier marriages. Facing much sadness, Fenwick was twice widowed. His first wife died of tuberculosis; his second wife died after falling down the stairs shortly after giving birth to a daughter. The Fenwick family lived at 141 King St. E. in what is now the Hotel Belvedere.
