Red wool jackets (blazers) were worn by Kingston General Hospital nursing student graduates during informal off-duty hours when a nursing uniform was not appropriate; these were were purchased voluntarily, generally when students entered their third year of study and it was considered to be a rite of passage; the blazer tradition continued until circa 1970; Phyllis Joynt Gould was from the Class of 1948.
