Blier clips were used for tubal sterilization and sometimes failed by allowing sperm to pass through the Fallopian tubes; clips were intended to clip over a Fallopian tube so tightly that sperm would be unable to pass through.

Trademark for Prentif was registered in Canada in 1989, and expunged in 2005 after a failure to renew. According to a news release from Cervical Cap Ltd., the North American distributor, the Prentif cervical cap ceased production in 2005.
