Provenance
Crutch was found between the main floor lath and plaster walls of house while renovating at 510 Brock Street, Kingston Ontario in 2000-2002. Unknown which of previous home owners originally left this behind.

The crutches are called auxiliary crutches or under arm crutches; designed to fit under the patients armpit; used mostly for temporary injuries in north america; because the crutches are marked with VIMY it is theorized that this term was used as a promotional patriotic tool commemorating the battle at Vimy Ridge in 1917.

Padding on armpieces has begun to discolour and stuffing of padding can be seen; the writing on the fabric tape has lightened to the point that it is illegible; adjustable holes for handpiece have been filled and some wear can be seen at these points; scuffs and marks can be seen along the surface; the rubber of the crutch bottoms is aged and has dried out and cracked.
