Vellum is faded and cockled over entire diploma; centre portion of vellum is very dark; ink is faded most noticeably at the bottom of the diploma; air and moisture have entered the crack through the original glass leaving marks on the vellum below

Dr. McCrindle was born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1862 but moved to Scotland in 1882 where he graduated with his degree in general medicine and surgery from the University of Glasgow in 1885; he returned to Jamaica in 1904; this collection accompanies 1989.10.1; there was a series of unrelated newspaper clippings stored beneath the certificate with poetry printed on them, which are now in the accession file.
