Research Facts
There are only two possible owners with the initials "E. Smith" of this uniform, Ella G. Smith Class of 1931 and Ella J. Smith Class of 1946. The decorative style of uniform and fabric determined the dates. The donor describes the artifact as a student's uniform that had previously been collected by staff of the former Kingston Psychiatric Hospital. Kingston Psychiatric Hospital originally founded as Rockwood Asylum in 1857; became Ontario Hospital - Kingston in 1920; became Kingston Psychiatric Hospital in 1965; as part of the reform of mental health care in Ontario, facility was renamed the Providence Continuing Care Centre in March 2001.
