Valerian - WedMD
Research Facts
This bottle contained an extract of valerian, a root used to treat insomnia. It has also been used to treat anxiety, headaches, hysterical states, and muscle or joint pain. It was prepared by John Howarth, a druggist in Toronto until 1890. His son, Samuel Howarth, continued the business until his death in 1909. Presumably, this bottle predates the death of John Howarth in 1890. It also contains some dried residue that has stained the bottle.
