Axis traction obstetrical forceps which consist of (a) the left blade that has a rounded end and a closed teardrop-shaped open area in the centre; the blade curves outwards to form a C-shape; the shank that leads from the blade to the handle is flat and has a rounded notch cut out of it; there is an attached threaded rod and wing nut on the shank, just above the handle; the handle curves downwards and ends in a solid bulbous tip; (b) the right blade also has a rounded end and a closed teardrop-shaped open area in the centre; the blade curves outward to form a mirrored curve to the
C-shaped left blade; the shank that leads from the blade to the handle is also flat and has a rounded bolt onto which the notch from the left blade fits; the handle curves downwards and ends in a solid sphere; an adjustable pivoting traction bar (c) fits over and locks onto the sphere on the right blade by unlocking and locking a movable cylindrical cuff; the handle of the traction bar is made of solid cylindrical metal and is attached to the shaft, forming a T-shape; the right and left blades fit together at the bolt and notch and the shanks are parallel when the blades are together.

(a) The words, "MADE IN U.S.A." are stamped into one side of the shank; the number "8" is stamped into the metal just above the handle; (b) the word, "Haslam" is stamped into one side of the shank and the word "CHROMED" is stamped into the other side; the number "8" is stamped into the metal just above the handle; (c) the number "8" is stamped into the traction bar handle

Condition Remarks
The blades show only minor wear and no corrosion; the blade on the right side shows a very small area of plating loss on the outer edge, but no corrosion
