Provenance
This artifact was used by the donor's uncle Dr. Walter Barnhart during the 1920s to the 1940s in his personal lab, possibly for arthritis research; this is not the original case for this thermometer.
The donor states that it was used from the 1920s through to the 1940s.

There is an indecipherable word engraved on the thermometer as well as "Gas Filled" and "Germany" and gradute markings from 00 to 120 with an F at the top; the label on the case reads "ENGRAVED THERMOMETER // Catalog No. Z4242 Length 10 Inches // Range 0 to 80°C."
