Cora Frances Burnside was a graduate of Kingston General Hospital School of Nursing class of 1923; she worked in New York until 1971 and died in 1996; nursing was officially recognized as a regulated profession in 1922 when the provincial government passed a nurses registration act in Ontario. The Graduate Nurses' Association of Ontario (GNAO) was largely responsible for the passing of this act.
