Research Facts
The first graduating class of the Kingston General Hospital School of Nursing was in 1888; the school was created in order to educate nurses as the demand for them increased, as well as providing a labour force to the hospital. When the first nurses graduated, they were given a certificate of completion, twenty five dollars, and a nursing medal.
Chalmers United Church in Kingston first met in 1847, and moved to its current location at Barrie Street, Clergy Street and Earl Street in the 1890s. At that time it was the Chalmers Free Presbyterian Church, and became part of the new United church (made from the union of the Congregational Church, Methodist Church and Presbyterian Church) in 1925.
