Research Facts
Plantago, also known as psyllium or ispaghula, mainly used in single ingredient bulk laxatives, it is more appropriately termed a true dietary fiber used for reducing blood chloresterol levels. Milling the outer seed ceates husks, and when water is added it will incease in volume by tenfold or more. Also used as a natural thickener in frozen desserts and ice cream. Manufactured in some areas of Europe as "Vi-Siblin".
On the label: "Siblin" readily absorbs large quantities of water, thus increasing the bulk of the intestinal contents and acting mechanically as a laxative. To this action is added the effects of Vitamin B1.
