Hon. John Macaulay (1792-1857) was a Kingston businessman, newspaper owner and political figure; in 1818 purchased the Kingston Gazette with Alexander Pringle; played an important role in the era of canal building; appointed to the Legislative Council in 1835; more information from original text panels added to the matting in donor file.
