Helena Mary (Rose) Lawrence graduated from St. Joseph's Training School at Hotel Dieu Hospital in 1927. The school was founded in 1912 for the training of secular and religious nurses as the demand for nurses grew at Hotel Dieu. The course of study became increasingly formalized with a three year course of study, lectures by doctors, etc.
