Research Facts
Dr Ralph and Mrs Olga Crawford donated their extensive Canadian dental collection to the DCF to create the museum in 1997; further donations were received while Dr Crawford was Curator Emeritus at the Dental Canada Museum until its closure in 2008; this articulator was produced because dentists wanted simpler instruments to work with; the Simplex was an "Average Value" instrument, meaning the rotation centers, condylar guides and incisal guide were set to average settings; the designer, Alfred Gysi, believed this articulator would provide efficient denture service in about 80% of cases; it was contrasted with the Gysi "adaptable" articulator, produced in the same year, which was highly adjustable
