Research Facts
Dr Ralph and Mrs Olga Crawford donated their extensive Canadian dental collection to the DCF to create the museum in 1997; further donations were received while Dr Crawford was Curator Emeritus at the Dental Canada Museum until its closure in 2008.
This item was donated by Dr. P. Ralph Crawford from Winnipeg, Manitoba; the Royal College of Dental Surgeons was founded in 1868 with the first dental act adopted anywhere in the world.
A dental school was opened in 1875, with degrees (D.D.S.) granted from the University of Toronto beginning in 1888; in 1925 the school fully joined the university as the Faculty of Dentistry, currently the largest dental school in Canada; the building featured on the calendar was located on College Street
