Dr Ralph and Mrs Olga Crawford donated their extensive Canadian dental collection to the DCF to create the museum in 1997; further donations were received while Dr Crawford was Curator Emeritus at the Dental Canada Museum until its closure in 2008; this item was donated by Dr. Ralph Crawford from Winnipeg, Manitoba; the item was purchased in an antique store in Ottawa, Ontario; the Ohio College of Dental Surgery, founded in 1845, was the second dental college in the United States; it was beat only by the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, the first dental school in the world, founded five years earlier; note that in this period, only two years of dental school were necessary to become a dentist after finishing high school
