Research Facts
Dr Ralph and Mrs Olga Crawford donated their extensive Canadian dental collection to the DCF to create the museum in 1997; further donations were received while Dr Crawford was Curator Emeritus at the Dental Canada Museum until its closure in 2008; this item was donated by Jill Burbank, wife of Dr. Erwin C. Burbank, from Victoria, British Columbia; Dr. Burbank practiced dentistry in Montreal with his brother, Dr. Alton W. Burbank; annealers are used to heat and prepare gold for fillings; Pelton & Crane was created when Dr. Pelton, a dentist, needed a porcelain furnace for his practice; he called upon the help of Mr. Crane, an electrical engineer, and together they began a dental manufacturing company in the basement of Dr. Pelton's home.
