Research Facts
Dr Ralph and Mrs Olga Crawford donated their extensive Canadian dental collection to the DCF to create the museum in 1997; further donations were received while Dr Crawford was Curator Emeritus at the Dental Canada Museum until its closure in 2008; this item was donated by Dr. Joe Fleming from Kingston, Ontario, with the permission of Carolyn Weir, stepdaughter of the Hon. John Diefenbaker (1895-1979); these casts were taken while Mr. Diefenbaker was in his 70s; according to Dr. Fleming, he only wanted his anterior teeth treated ("the ones that show"); his wife Olive once stated, "John does not find his strength in the dental chair!"; as leader of the Conservative party, Mr. Diefenbaker was prime minister of Canada from 1957-1963
