Portable gold scale in case; silver metal oval case (a), enamelled in green on outside, black on inside; brown wooden section with three cut-out cylinders for holding weights; largest space is covered by yellow metal disc that swings on hinge; yellow metal scale (b) consists of horizontal branch; three chains hang down from each end; chains hook onto two shallow bowls; cylindrical metal loop comes upward from top of branch, with hook attached at end to hang scale; two yellow metal cylindrical weights with tapering handles, one equals one ounce (c), the other 1/2 ounce (d); five yellow metal disc-shaped penny weights; 5 dwt (e), 2 dwt (f, g), 1 dwt (h), 1/2 dwt (i)

Dr Ralph and Mrs Olga Crawford donated their extensive Canadian dental collection to the DCF to create the museum in 1997; further donations were received while Dr Crawford was Curator Emeritus at the Dental Canada Museum until its closure in 2008; this item was donated by Dr. Kirk Preston from Fredericton, New Brunswick; the item was brought to his dental office by a patient whose uncle was a dentist
