Black plastic dental amalgam scale; rounded triangular base (a) with three rounded feet with three graduated sizes of silver metal rods and raised silver metal disc; scale (b), long tube with cone-shaped receptacles at ends; one, with a silver metal screw on bottom marked for mercury, the larger receptacle marked for alloy; adjustable silver metal bolt attached to each via square loop, with long pins coming down; pins rest on pair of metal rods stands on base as a pivot or balance, with the mercury receptacle over the raised disc.

Research Facts
Dr Ralph and Mrs Olga Crawford donated their extensive Canadian dental collection to the DCF to create the museum in 1997; further donations were received while Dr Crawford was Curator Emeritus at the Dental Canada Museum until its closure in 2008; this item was donated by Dr. Mark Trepanier from Farnham, Quebec; this scale was used to measure out the correct proportions of mercury and metal alloy, which together make up dental amalgam, used to fill cavities
