Silver metal dental instrument sterilizer; cylindrical in shape on rectangular base; round door at front end opens sideways via metal door handle with black rubber handles; door handle then lifts upward so door can open; opening lined with red rubber; instructions for initial heating and loading enamelled in black and silver on top of sterilizer; red pilot light at bottom right of front; temperature control at left; two round pressure gauges at top, showing pounds of pressure and temperature, covered with clear glass; valve releases on either side; boiler filling funnel at right, attached to black rubber-handled valve; cylindrical reservoir tank at top right with lid (b) with black handle; four cylindrical black rubber feet; two brown metal trays (c, d), bottoms perforated with small holes, with semi-circular handles at sides; handwritten brown page of instructions (e) printed with brown and black ink, states loading and unloading instructions

Research Facts
Dr Ralph and Mrs Olga Crawford donated their extensive Canadian dental collection to the DCF to create the museum in 1997; further donations were received while Dr Crawford was Curator Emeritus at the Dental Canada Museum until its closure in 2008; this item was donated by Dr. Don Beauprie from Deep River, Ontario; this sterilizer used steam to clean instruments, gloves, etc.
