Handwritten rectangular medical textbook on varying subjects; textbook has upwards of 500 pages although not all pages are numbered; writing is present on both sides of the pages and there are hand drawings interspersed throughout; textbook is made up of cream coloured and yellowed pages written on in black ink; the front cover and spine are missing while the back cover made of brown cardboard and covered with yellow paper is still attached; signatures are bound to the spine with thin pieces of string; there is a larger piece of string with one end between pages 298 and 299 and the other end between pages 364 and 365

Found by donors in 1996 in the attic of their cottage in Colebrook; cottage was built in 1853 and had been in donor's family since the 1800s.

Front cover and pages missing. Front page is ripped and top half missing. Top pages have insect holes. Edges of the book have discolored. Some pages within the book and the book spine are detached. Ink is faded while back cover is discolored, stained and flaking
Front cover and an unknown number of pages of the book are missing; front page is ripped and the top half of the page is missing; top pages have pre-exisitng insect holes in them; edges of the book have discoloured to a dark brown; some pages within the book have detached; spine has detached completely but has left some remnants behind; the top pages have faded, turning the ink from black to brown; back cover shows significant signs of discolouration, flaking and wear; back cover has dark and light brown stains all over and has begun to sink in the centre
