Handwritten indenture agreement on tan paper in blue ink between Martin Edward Snider and Charles J. Curtis, Dentist of Toronto, dated May 1st, 1862; Martin Snider was to be apprenticed to Charles J. Curtis, Dentist, for two years and six months as a dental apprentice; a note on the back of the document signed by Charles Curtis testifies that Martin Snider successfully completed his apprenticeship; the paper document has been covered on both sides by a plastic adhesive sheet.

Transfer from the Dental Canada Fund; previously housed in the Dentistry Canada Museum (Ottawa).
On front: "This agreement witnessed that Martin Edward // Snider son of Catherine Snider of the Township of York, // doth put himself apprentice to Charles J. Curtis // Dentist of Toronoto to learn his art and with him after // the manner of an apprentice to serve from the 1st day // of May 1862 unto the full end and term of two years // and six months from thence next following to be fully // complete and ended, during which term the said // apprentice his instructor faithfully shall serve, secrets // of his profession shall be kept inviolabley shall do no // damage to his goods, nor absent himself from his duties // without first obtaining consent, to be punctual at the //place of business during business hours or at such times as // required to lay his time full under the control of the in - // structor. In consideration of which the aforesaid Charles // J. Curtis shall teach and instruct the said apprentice to // the best of his ability in the art of his profession. // And for the true performance of the said agreements // either of the said parties bindeth himself unto the other // by these presents in witness whereof the parties above // named have interchangeably put their names to this // agreement on the 1st day of May in the year of // our Lord 1862."; on reverse: "I hereby certify that Martin Edward // Snider has served his time faithfully with // Me as an apprentice. He is a first // Class workman, an thoroughly posted // in every branch of his profession. // Charles J. Curtis D.D.S."

Dr Ralph and Mrs Olga Crawford donated their extensive Canadian dental collection to the DCF to create the museum in 1997; further donations were received while Dr Crawford was Curator Emeritus at the Dental Canada Museum until its closure in 2008.
