Research Facts
This is the 'Junior Balancer' model that was introduced in 1934 and was smaller, simpler, and less expensive of the 'Deluxe' and 'Senior' models; casts were directly mounted to the instrument; usually there were two attachments that could be added to the Junior Balancer, the Occlusal Arc Guide and the Flat Plane Guide. Hagman designed the instrument according to his belief that the mandible functioned in an arc from centric relation. Dr Ralph and Mrs Olga Crawford donated their extensive Canadian dental collection to the DCF to create the museum in 1997; further donations were received while Dr Crawford was Curator Emeritus at the Dental Canada Museum until its closure in 2008.
